Swarm Simulator is a free idle game available to play on your browser. In this idle game, you control a colony of bugs that will eventually take over the planet by sheer numbers.
This really is a great idle game as it throws out some of the annoying features that are in other games while adding in a few new ones.
In the beginning you will start as a very, very small colony, only around 25 larvae and some meat and everything may seem quite slow. Larvae are the very basic unit that is needed for around 99% of the entire game's actions and so is meat. Without either of these, you will have a very slow progressing game, but don't worry, it will only be in the end game where you will have a shortage of one or the other.
Once you create your first few drones, they will begin to produce meat, and at 100 drones, you can buy yourself a queen which will produce more drones, and with the queens, you will eventually be able to build a nest, which will produce queens and so on and on with this system. Each category of unit have their own upgrades, one will cost the actual unit and the other will cost the one above. The first upgrade will double your production per bug and then quadruple, then double again, the other one, will double the amount or bugs you obtain per larvae, again, double, quadruple, etc. The amount of times you can upgrade is infinite, but the price of which you have to pay to upgrade further will quickly rise above and beyond what you can earn in an hour.
Although it may seem a bit empty at first and slow to progress, you will eventually be sailing though this game. Upgrading your hatchery is in top priority of completing the game as the larvae are the building blocks of your swarm and you can do so by using meat or "territory" to do so, also by unlocking the massive amount of achievements. Territory is obtained by hatching bugs that are designed for combat, all the way from tiny flying insects to giant arachnomorphs. Unlike the normal bug producing units which are the main body of your swarm, these bugs require a lot more meat to produce, and I mean, a lot.
Another feature of this game is unlockable mid-way though the game, it's called the "nexus". The nexus requires plenty of meat to build, and then, followed up with another four upgrades, the next one being around 50 times more expensive than the last. Although it does cost a lot, it is worth it in the long run, that is if you buy it as early as possible. The nexus will produce energy, which can be used to cast "spells" on your swarm. There are several different spells that can be cast, ranging from instantly giving you a trillion or so larvae (depends on how much larvae you produce) to instantly sending your swarm 15 minutes into the future.
Like the majority of other idle/clicker games, they contain a "prestige" feature, which will restart your game, but you will in turn start with certain bonuses. In Swarm Simulator, this is called Ascending, your swarm arrives at a new planet after conquering the previous one and you begin your new game with "mutagen". Mutagen will passively, dramatically increase your larvae production or can be spent on upgrades, like 500% meat production, but of course, best to let the mutagen give you a free billion larvae.
Of course as in most idle games, you reach a ridiculously large number, like my current drones, 351UVi, now, what in god's name does that abbreviation mean? Unvigintillion, now, what happens when we remove the abbreviation and add in the numbers? You get a very, very large amount of 0s:
351,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000
Now that, is a very large amount of 0s.
Conclusion:
A very good idle game, it has a nice theme of bugs if you like that kind of thing or just like an idle game that is just different from all of the others. You can also transfer your saves by the code or have them all synchronized via drop box, also this game offers a various amount of themes to choose from. Also one other thing that must be said that makes this game perfect, there is no penalty for not having the game active, not even by 1% or even 0.0001%.
